Barely hours after the new ecosystem launch, Aptos has experienced a Sybil attack.
During its airdrop, a user tried to attack it for 190,000 worth of Aptos tokens during the airdrop. The random user then dumped it all on Binance.
Following the attack, the ecosystem was forced to temporarily mute its official discord channel to protect its users. The page also gave an official notice,
" Important notice: Do not trust anybody promising to sell or gift tokens. Moderators or members will never dm you, only trust official channels ".
A few users say that it is unusual for Aptos to experience such an attack. Aptos was very careful in launching its network. Therefore, it might have thrown caution due to the excitement following its acceptance and forgot to counter-check any airdrop vulnerabilities. Some users find it unbelievable for Aptos to experience a Sybil attack.
According to SageHR, a Twitter user,
"...if a trader is inexperienced and tried trading aptos it’s just natural selection."
Jack, another user, says that the only people losing money are gambling addicts.
"In this economy? The people losing here are gambling addicts, virtually no one with any experience over the past 3 years is gambling on random new crypto."
What's a Sybil Attack?
A Sybil attack occurs where one user tries to take over the whole ecosystem by creating multiple accounts.
The simplest form of a Sybil attack is where a user creates multiple social media accounts.
In cryptocurrency, it is when a user tries to run multiple nodes on a blockchain.
Is the Aptos Token Airdrop Legit?
Yes. The airdrop is valid, and is happening today. Aptos is trending in the cryptocurrency space.
However, some users have mixed reactions towards the airdrop. A popular cryptocurrency YouTuber, Cobie, referred to Aptos as "Web 1".
According to the YouTuber, he just claimed his $APT tokens from the AOL instant messenger alert and now his computer won't run.
Other users say that you have to sign in with gmail to collect your tokens. Cobie finds it hilarious that "they're sending coins to email addresses. "
Aptos official airdrop page states,
"1/ The Aptos Foundation has provided early network participants with APT tokens. If you are eligible to claim, you will receive an email from airdrop@aptosfoundation.org in the next few hours."
Is the Aptos Ecosystem Secure and Promising?
The Aptos Ecosystem has had a series of Testnets. Therefore, the ecosystem is secure. Its Binance listing also shows that it is a good project. The only problem might have been with the airdrop, something that the system has rectified so far.
If you are experiencing any issues with the Aptos Airdrop, for example,
"I cannot claim the airdrop. It always shows this error "Claiming airdrop failed. Please ensure that your account has sufficient tokens to perform the transaction and try again."
