"User Experience refers to the feeling users experience when using a product, application, system, or service. ." ~ProductPlan
"Let's take as an example an e-commerce website. If a customer finds the buying experience to be long, complex and complicated, then her UX will be a bad one. Say instead her purchasing experience is easy and hustle free, then the UX will be considered a good one." ~UserReport
Since the 2017 bull market, blockchain enthusiasts and crypto advocates have been awaiting the mass adoption of cryptocurrency. But why has crypto not gone mainstream yet?
Well, the truth is that most people still do not understand how crypto works at all. And people fear what they do not understand.
Therefore, focusing on User Experience (UX) matters because UX is an investment that keeps on paying. Good UX design has a high return on investment; it can generate word-of-mouth and increase user loyalty.
Why Does UX Matter in Crypto?
User experience is very important when developing products. How do the users feel when using your products? Do they feel confused or happy?
There is not much effort put into crypto products regarding user experience (UX) simply because the focus is mostly on the backend and structural engineering. Investment goes mostly into cryptography, technical research, and backend engineering. Even front ends for blockchain-based applications are often "just enough to get the job done."
Most end users of crypto products are confused, frustrated, or nervous when using the app simply because they understand the application's features.
"Relative underrepresentation of people with design and UX backgrounds in crypto is one reason for end-user adoption challenges in the space," Derek Yoo writes.
Ways to Make Crypto UX Better
Attention Lifespan- The users of this category have an attention span of a minute, and they browse multiple screens in parallel. The DeFi app should have a good UX design with just the right details conveying the intended meaning easily.
Gamification- People hate reading and following long instructions; they prefer learning by doing. Dealing and transacting with money in DeFi apps requires specific instructions. Here, UX designers can adopt gamification principles to convert instructions into 'goals' or 'missions.' This will engage the users more and eliminate the need to follow boring textual instructions.
Organized and Trendy- The workflow elements in a DeFi application should be placed and organized with the order of their usage in mind. For example, in crypto trading applications, the list of available cryptocurrencies, exchange rates, and calls to action should be organized along with trendy UI styles to ensure maximum user. If the users can't find the right information and action within seconds, their attention will wander quickly and ultimately move to better-designed and easy-to-use applications.
Multiple devices- People love gadgets and own and use different devices. As such, they expect the same application experience across all their devices. The UX/UI designers should ensure consistent user experience across different device types with good application responsiveness and ease of use.
Is UX Important In Crypto?
For crypto to go mainstream and touch every facet of life, a good user experience is indispensable. The user interface must be good, and the overall user experience should be excellent.
UX determines how long the user spends using the product or whether the user of a product is likely to come back.
